Daily Reading – Job 23

I’m picking up in the middle of Job, Job 23. I’ve been trying to get this site up and running properly. Still some things that need to happen, but I want to start posting what I’m reading in the Bible.

Back in Job 1: 6-9, God was pointing out Job to satan as a model man, ‘blameless and upright’. But satan pointed to God’s blessing Job so abundantly as the reason. Take away the blessings and Job would change. Satan even asks God to, Job 1:11, But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face. It’s interesting to note that God did not strike Job, but released satan to do as he willed with Job, Job 1:12.

So the stage is set. Job is going to be beset by trials. He loses his family and all his possessions. His friends and he then go in a back and forth conversation about the situation.

Job 23:7 There an upright man could present his case before him, and I would be delivered forever from my judge.
Job 23:10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
Job 23:14-15 He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans he still has in store. That is why I am terrified before him; when I think of all this, I fear him.

Yeah, it’s pretty scary to think of what God may do ‘to us’. But ‘for us’ is the way I have been led to believe. I share that fear even though I believe it is his method of correction while having a better plan for our life than we could imagine for ourselves.

Lord may I grow in fully trusting in you for all my needs, knowing you have an incredible plan for my life, a plan to prosper and not to harm (Jer 29:11). May I look to difficulties in life as part of this plan; your drawing me nearer. And in all things, I will shout your praises.
