Forgiveness

Just got asked an interesting question by a friend.  How do you forgive people you get angry with?

Well, first off, we have to look inside ourselves to see why we are actually angry. Usually, I find, it has to do with trust in God.  If you are looking to him for everything, your fears are eliminated and many types of anger we have experienced disappear. (Well, that’s what I have found.)  Easier said than done, I know very well. But when I look at why I get angry, it usually has something to do with my own pride issues – I deserve better. The more I rely on God, the more these fears go away as I know I receive all I need from him.

And when should we forgive? Immediately. We don’t have to forget or even offer trust again in the future. Totally separate issue; especially where mental or physical danger is a real possibility. But forgiveness is a gift from you to FOR-GIVE. It has nothing to do with the other person or if they deserve it. It’s our way to practice the Grace we have received by offering grace, little g. Holding grudges can do nothing but harm you.

And if you find trouble forgiving, just forgive again. Fight that emotion back, give it up to God, and forgive. Through God’s Grace he has taught us a better way to live.

Colossians 3:13 TNIV   NIV – Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
