John Piper – Jesus Doesn’t Love Everybody the Same Way

PiperRant1 150x150 John Piper Jesus Doesnt Love Everybody the Same WayI’m getting to the point to where listening to John Piper speak disgusts me.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fkSB9f8V6w

Jhn 17:9     “I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours;

Where in this verse does Jesus say he loves those who are saved in a way separate from the world?

Jhn 17:18     “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

Jhn 17:20     “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word;

Contrary to what Piper in the very least implies, Jesus is specifically praying for the disciples. Jesus is not saying he is praying for his sheep, believers or the Elect. He tells us he is praying for the disciples and adds other believers who have believed their word. Even more extraordinary, we have those who have come to a belief in Jesus through the words of the disciples.

We’re left with two very clear options on Piper’s exegesis of this passage. Either 1) and I will use the word which Piper himself used to describe others in the ministry, Piper is dumb or 2) Piper is deliberately using language to mislead the listener while altering the meaning of John 17:9 to suit his purposes, which is to strengthen the case for Calvinism.

Jhn 17:22b “so that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
Jhn 17:23 “…so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.”

I’m not sure if the ‘them’ in John 17:23 refers to the disciples or to the world, but it doesn’t matter. Jesus is praying for the disciples to have strength for the mission which is to spread the Gospel and to bring the knowledge of Jesus to the world.

John Piper is no idiot. Shame on you sir. Worse, he misses what is a golden opportunity to enlighten his read of John 6. John 17 destroys the Calvinism of John 6.

——————–

I’ll just add my opinion on Judas. Nothing says God willed Judas to betray Jesus. My guess is just like pharaoh, Judas hardened his own heart first. For this we have Biblical support at least. For God choosing to cause someone against their will to not believe in Jesus I find no Biblical evidence.

Jhn 17:12     “While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.”

What does Jesus say here? One of those given to Jesus was Judas, who was lost. Judas was given. This just detracts further from the strength of Calvinist doctrine.

There were plenty of non-believers around Jesus to choose. See John 6 to see outside of the 12, there were many non-believing disciples. I’m not even sure Judas did not believe. We know the demons who were cast into the pigs believed who Jesus was. We know Judas betrayed Jesus. This we know.

But Piper would have us believe he sees into Judas’ heart, knows his beliefs and knows that God willed him to be a non-believer and to betray Jesus to fulfill prophesy. My question is simple. Is our God really that weak? Calvinist doctrine presents a weak God unable to relinquish control for fear of what the natives may attempt. That’s not the God I read about. God is in total control in spite of the fact that he gave us idiots our own ability to make stupid mistakes. Now that is strength.

  1. As a pastor and scholar, I certainly hope you do not claim to be either. I pray this website is some fanciful rant, for- if you are truly attempting to do something for Christ, it surely cannot come from expending so much hot air on a topics of ignorance.

    • If you are going to slam another person and claim personal scholarship credentials, you ought to at least proof read your posts. Please re-read and reconsider your last sentence, professor.

  2. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth ( walking in his commandments) in him should not perish but have everlasting life. Believe= walking in his commandments. There is also 2 different meanings to the word love in the greek language I wont tell you here but I suggest you get yourself a copy of E-sword and stop being unlearned. It will open your eyes. Lay preachers often dont study the greek scriptures instead take the english written verses literal. We live in different times and one has to study the very culture of those times to understand. I once was blind but now I can see. Hope you soon can see too. Agape Linda. Studying for less than a year.
