Walking in the Spirit, not Philosophy

Vincent van Gogh Starry Night 150x150 Walking in the Spirit, not Philosophy

2 Corinthians 11:3     “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.”

I’ve been bugged by Calvinist thought and Election doctrine again recently. In John 12:32 Jesus tells us He will draw all men towards himself. This one verse should have stopped the ‘doctrines of Grace’. What a terrible name! One good thing about that line of thought. It drills down your throat that salvation is entirely of God.

Maybe it was something I needed to get through. Well I’m good for now. I’ve been letting the philosophy of men get in the way of my personal relationship with Jesus.

Colossians 2:6-10     “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;”

addendum

I just happened to look at the concordance which says ‘philosophy’ in Col 2:8 (Greek – ‘philosophia’) is used once in the new testament of the theology, or rather theosophy (mystical insight), of certain Jewish Christian ascetics, which busied itself with refined and speculative inquiries into the nature and classes of angels, into the ritual of the Mosaic law and the regulations of Jewish tradition with regard to practical life. Is Paul saying mumbo jumbo? Boy did this verse come at the right time for me.
