Young Earth, Old Earth Debate

earthpast Young Earth, Old Earth DebateThe battle still rages. But should there be a battle? Personally, I follow science, believe God’s Word and see no contradiction. The greatest damage to the church is in creating sides. Also damaging; to say you must check your science knowledge at the door before believing. This was personally damaging in that it kept me from opening the Bible. Don’t let anyone tell you God hasn’t got it all figured out. As a very wise man told me, the Bible tells us ‘why’, science tells us ‘how’. Definitely a heated topic.

Much of the first part of the debate revolves around Genesis 1 and the Hebrew word for day, yowm. Later parts of the day looks at 6,000 years and the genealogy listed in Genesis.

Chaired by Dan Ankerberg, Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis, Hugh Ross of Reasons.org, Walter Kaiser Old Testament scholar and translator of NIV, Jason Lisle Answers in Genesis.

*1 Ken Ham’s major contention, God saying ‘good’ meant there was no animal death before The Fall which Ken believes leads to theological differences including a changed view of atonement.

*2 Hugh Ross points out scientists fought against Big Bang theory because it confirmed the Christian world view.
